RSS

I love RSS. My experiences with RSS have been very helpful. What I've been doing for a long time actually when RSS first came out, I had a mobile device (PSP) and I downloaded the CNN feed and I could download audio/radio and or video feeds for the day in a wifi spot and listen/watch them later. Today I used google reader and it's just as good. Here's one of my favorite feeds. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/creed_promises_new_album_this_summer.html

Suffolk Wave

So suffolk wave huh? Kinda cool I might say, it's kinda like the new online blockbuster for MMSCL. This is a big push to help the library in using Web 2.0 So ride the wave and find your audiobooks now!

Flickr

Flickr...hmmm....another pain in my butt? Yes sir. This is just like Delicious but with photos this time. I'm not really liking this revolution of social network websites to be honest. It's more of a disaster than an uprising. I don't like this website because its a waste of my time. Searching for photos is a pain! Whatever, I can happily look at my photos in windows media player thank you very much.

Youtube

What can I say about Youtube.. Well I've been playing around with it for about a good 4 or 5 years now, and I absolutely love it. The founder is a genius and people are finding this website more and more useful everyday. The other day I stayed home with my brother while my parents were out, so I figured I'd call up the chinese or pizza spot. But I was dirt poor and could'nt call up for delivery. We did have a lot of food at home. So decided to search up home cooking meals. Turns out I learned how to make BBQ Chicken Grilled Cheese! How Cool!? Anyways, for the library's sake, it could be beneficial in a sense to which you can find book review's, and interviews with authors. The possibilities are endless on Youtube and the website is wonderful. Go find some videos they're great =]

The Library Thing

I might say this website is actually kind of cool. I usually don't read on a daily basis, but this website might be described as if wikipedia, a library, and a social network had a baby! This site is very clean and oragnized and was easy to find my books I wanted to add. For instance, the website actually just helped me find a new Dean Koontz book that I have not read. This could help big book buffs get to socialize with other people. I give this one an A for effort. Nice work Library Thing, the libraries will love you!

Delicious

Honestly, Delicious is another waste of time. I don't see this helping the library at all. Internet Explorer gave us the easy idea to hit the little star with the plus and BOOM you got a bookmark saved! I don't see the big deal with the idea of a website saving your bookmarks. It's actually like "hey I'll give you a dollar to hold the rest of my money cause I don't feel like buying that $1 wallet." Delicious' idea is very redundant so this might just be a time waster. What do you think?

Myspace vs. Facebook

So I was asked by exercise #5 of Web 2.o to compare MMSCL's web pages for each social network website. Clearly I've been a myspace fan for clearly quite some time. I joined facebook later on about 3 months later. To be frank, I think myspace holds much more possibilities and space for you to insert endless amounts of creative applications. Such as your webpage song, a web radio, a digital slideshow for pictures and videos, and even games. More importantly, uploading photos, your daily status, and even things like event date space and blogging, are extremely user friendly and easy for many friends to acess your page to get to know you. I visited both pages, and clearly I think there's too much going on not only on the library's page, but everyone elses as well. With myspace, you can receive important feeds from other friends and not have to be bothered with facebook's eye-gouging fans asking you every five minutes for a petition signing, or join-a-cause request. It's too much time to put my hands in for facebook. Myspace takes the knockout!

Twitter

So we're here to talk a little about the free social networking or as others call it, 'micro-blogging' service introduced to us through Web 2.0. Personally this program is a waste of time and can make me less productive in my world at home. I feel that Twitter (with it's constant blog status) may become a nuissance to others in the future. The idea of an instant blog or status update is quite dense to the fact that some of our responsibilities may be obliterated. I have no use for this program. What can you speak of every five minutes? " Hey I'm drinking a soda," or even " Oh just breathing and staring at a wall, tell me your thoughts on the Revolutionary War?" You might say that I'm augmenting the social network service downfall, but clearly I have used the program under the library's name and these are the responses I've seen. The stereotypes are to the tee my fellow staff, but I digress.. Let me know your thoughts on Twitter and how you see the better use of it.
